Signs You Have Groundhogs

Burrow openings against structures

A main entrance about a foot across, usually with a mound of fresh soil, dug against a shed, deck, porch, patio or foundation.

Undermined slabs and settling ground

Tunnel systems hollow out the ground under concrete pads, walkways and footings, and the slab settles or cracks.

Cropped garden beds and gnawed stems

Rows cut down at a clean angle overnight, and chewed bark or stems on young shrubs near the burrow.

Hearing scratching but don't know what it is? That's most of our calls. We'll identify it during the inspection.

What Groundhog Removal Includes

Groundhog tunnels run deep and long, and they hollow out the ground under whatever sits above them. Sheds shift, patio slabs settle and crack, and deck footings lose support. That is the reason most people call.

Sealing and repair. We seal every access point and repair the damage, with a warranty on the work performed.

Straight to the point, Mike was the best. A bunch of companies didn't want to take the job of getting rid of a bird's nest, but he made it seem easy.

Frequently Asked Questions

Groundhog or woodchuck?

Same animal. Groundhog, woodchuck and whistlepig all refer to the same species, and the work is the same.

Why fill the burrow if the animal is gone?

An open burrow is prime real estate. Skunks, opossums and other groundhogs move into an abandoned tunnel system quickly, so filling and sealing is what stops the cycle.

Can a groundhog really damage a foundation?

The tunnels undermine what sits above them. Sheds shift, patio slabs settle and crack, and deck footings lose support. It is the most common reason people call about them.

Will a repellent or a fence work?

Groundhogs dig, so a fence has to be buried to be worth anything, and repellents do not address an established burrow. Removing the animal and sealing the tunnel is what holds.

How long does trapping take?

Usually a few days once traps are set at the active entrances. Burrow filling and exclusion follow after the burrow is confirmed clear.
