Signs You Have Raccoons
Heavy movement after dark
Raccoons are nocturnal and big enough to sound like footsteps. Thumping, dragging and chittering overhead between dusk and dawn usually means an adult, or a mother with young.
Torn soffits and lifted shingles
A raccoon can pry open a soffit, roof vent or fascia board. The opening is large and obvious once you know where to look.
Droppings and ruined insulation
Raccoon latrines build up in one spot in the attic. Droppings can carry roundworm, and saturated insulation stops insulating.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do raccoons get into an attic?
Almost always through the roofline. Soffit seams, gable and roof vents, fascia gaps, uncapped chimneys and rotted trim are the usual routes. Raccoons have functional hands and can pull, pry and tear an opening that a squirrel could only chew.
What is the difference between removal and exclusion?
Removal gets the animal out. Exclusion seals the way it got in. You need both. Removal on its own leaves an open hole that the next raccoon will find, often in the same season.
What if there are babies in the attic?
We check for young before sealing anything. Removing the mother and closing the hole while a litter is still inside traps them, which creates an odor problem and a second job. If young are present we remove them by hand.
Are raccoons in the attic dangerous?
They can carry raccoon roundworm and rabies, and their latrines contaminate insulation. For most homeowners the bigger risk is structural: chewed wiring, saturated insulation and torn ductwork.
How long does the job take?
The inspection and trap set happen on the first visit. Trapping usually runs a few days depending on how many animals are present. Sealing and repair follow once the space is clear.
